About me

Today's most important problem spaces are too big, too wicked, and too complex. I bring a unique approach to help us navigate these confusing landscapes and develop systemic solutions without losing sight of human values and experience.

As a design practitioner

Design is one way of knowing about the world (see also: data science, experimental science, literature, psychology), and it's my primary approach to problem solving. That said, while staying theoretically grounded, I often "break" traditional design processes and methods to help us uncover new territories - prototype then research, apply data science to our qual data, or blend history into synthesis -  wherever the problems take us.

As a design leader

I love supporting high-performing creative teams. I seek to balance transparent leadership with protecting teams from outside interference, to balance creative wandering with amazing (and on-time!) results, to balance the best work of our careers with our even more important personal lives.

I love partnering with senior clients with vision who also like to get stuff done. I seek to give them the confidence/ammunition/roadmaps they need to try never-before-done approaches. And then deliver them. I believe that doing design with clients turns them into True Believers, so I'm happy to bring clients along to experience the rollercoaster that is fieldwork.
